North Denver Neighborhoods to Raise a Family

Broomfield, Colorado, is a city North of Denver and Aurora. This city is home to around 78,000 residents, making it feel like more of a close-knit neighborhood than a sprawling city, but you still have quick access to what Denver has to offer.

Broomfield is packed with over 700 acres of parks and open space, including over 45 playgrounds and multiple public golf courses. During the Summer months, the Bay Aquatic park opens up to residents. It has two body slides, a tube slide, racing slides, a pool, and a water playground for kids. These outdoor recreation options make Broomfield an excellent option for those who love to get outside and enjoy Colorado’s weather.

Every September, the city hosts ‘Broomfield Days’, where residents come together with a pancake breakfast, a 5K run, a parade, tons of food trucks and vendors, inflatables for the kids, and live performances. This is a great opportunity to get to know others and celebrate your city. And, it shows how much emphasis the city puts on community.

For schooling options, Broomfield is served by a couple of highly rated school districts including Boulder County School District and Adams 12 Five Star Schools. There are also charter and private schooling options available within the city for children of all age ranges.

Broomfield Neighborhoods for Families

Overall, the city of Broomfield is regarded by residents as quiet, safe, and a great place to raise a family. But, to narrow it down, here are some wonderful neighborhoods to look into if you are moving to the area.

  • Redleaf: Adjacent to one of the largest parks (Broomfield Commons) and the Paul Derda Rec Center, this area offers tons of space to run, bike, and play, with great schools nearby.
  • Broadlands: A master-planned community wrapped around a golf course, with parks, trails, and nearby schools—mid-$600Ks median home price.
  • McKay Landing: Scenic lakeside neighborhood with its own clubhouse and pool—great for walking and family time.
  • Others worth exploring: Anthem Highlands (views + rec center, higher price bracket), Aspen Creek, Willow Run, and Northmoor Estates—each offering different styles and conveniences.

Broomfield Logistics & Insights

  • Cost of Living: About 20% higher than the national average, with housing costs around 51% above typical U.S. levels.
  • Commuting: Excellent access to US-36, I-25, and E-470—Denver (~30 min), Boulder (~20 min), and DIA easily accessible.
  • Transport: Public transit is limited; a car is essential, though the Broomfield train station is handy for Denver/DIA trips. And there are plans in the works to extend the B Line of the RTD to pass through Broomfield with two stops at 116th Ave. Station as well as one at Flatiron Station.
